ISA here I come

Posted by dale on Sat, 14 Aug 2004 16:16:02 EST

I downloaded a trial version of ISA 2004 about a month ago. I didn’t really have any time to play with it, so I’m doing a fresh install of Windows 2003 on one of my spare boxes and I’m going to install it. It would be good if it had a web interface (unsure if it does), like the smoothwall one (I’m currently running smoothwall for routing and firewalling). I think ISA does bandwidth throttling and has an outbound firewall, so that would be good. Smoothwall doesn’t have any of this. Although you need to remember that smoothwall is free, and well ISA is far from it :|

Oh wouldn’t it be great if all Microsoft products were free!? But then they wouldn’t be in business (I spose that is a bad thing).

On another topic I’m STILL working on a colour scheme for this site. I think I’m liking the current one, although the news colour is a bit washed out. I’m going to do hunting on the internet and find sites with a nice colour scheme and leach theirs :p

Still can’t do this design crap. Oh well. Although I must admit this site is a lot better than the main site. It has all this funky CSS junk. weee. MMM should I just replace my main site with this one? It looks better. Oh I don’t know.

Windows2003 is almost finished installing so I’ll go back to that. I’ll report back on my ISA findings ;)

Below are the comments for this news item

This looks a lot better, granted. I really like the default theme on here… it's a tad… sparse… and a few elements are rough around the edges (some literally!), but still. Get rid of the few remaining tables you're using as layout elements (e.g. the BBCode box to the right of where I now type) and it'll be far sexier.. that's one of the only tangible suggestions I can give without actually physically pointing to elements and saying "this might be better here, there, or connected to x element(s) in terms of [layout]/[colour]/[presentation]".

How's Windows 2003/ISA 2004 doing? Any nice web interfaces to report on?

Just about to post something about ISA.

With the table for BBcode I think I'll need to setup another DIV/class. So the posting message has a left float and the BBcode has a right float. Although is it possible to do that with just one class?

Weeeeeeelll… of course, you can use the style="" attribute within your DIV tag - but it means you'd have to manually edit your PHP if you want to change it, which isn't particularly portable, and is generally ugly… *shrug*

Awiating this post… ;p also awaiting comments/posts RSS feeds for this blog. ;)

Okay I've fixed up the CSS a bit. I've made a class for the BBcode, was the easiest way. I've also fixed up the padding for the comments area. The text no longer goes all the way to the sides. Looks better. Shall do a comments RSS thing now.
