Comments touchup

Posted by Michael Dale on Fri, 24 Sep 2004 5:03 PM

I was going to write something on the topic of Website Formatting and Presentation but I'll leave that one for a bit. Maybe tomorrow. Anyway I've fixed up the comments system a little bit. There is now a Permalink for each comment (if you click on the time of that post). The size and placement of who posted and when has also changed. I think it looks a bit better.

Currently working on fixing my text processing function. Just to handle inputted data (comments etc) better. Although you shouldn't see any visual changes.

EDIT: testing filer: “””” ‘’’;;~~`232 I’ve blald bfb.

Hmm. Your character encoding looks interesting over here, for "I've" in the third sentence of this post... I don't know if it's just my fonts/browser/operating system, but it looks odd. Can send screenshots if you need/want :)

I think the new commenting system is good, but the "permalink" comment thing is... interesting. The same as WordPress, really. What *I'd* be interested to see is a spot of innovation (or at least the pulling together of ideas from various sources), so that the comment permalink actually IS a permalink!

You know how phpBB does post-specific links? ?p=postid#postid kind of format -- take that concept, improve it (using mod_rewrite for "friendly"/SEO happy URI's), and make it your own! :P It'd be good to implement a system where the post you clicked a permalink to was highlighted, as well... whether you'd do this "dynamically" (static to the client), or using cool CSS/JavaScript is up to you, but I think it'd be an interesting feature, something different.

Yeah I was playing with my text filter thingy, text should be okay now.

I'll add your idea to the possible features list ;)
