Anyone who runs a small website probably wants to increase the number of visitors to their site. There are so many websites that cover any and every topic possible. On the internet there really isn't all that much room for innovation. Everything has already been done by at least 7,000 other people.
So what makes websites popular? Why do certain websites receive so much traffic where as other sites which are just as good don't? Unfortunately it seems to be the case of first come stays. For example Slashdot. Probably the worst looking site on the internet, crappy code and not accessible, yet ironically it has one of the biggest readerships of all techie news sites (the Slashdot effect anyone?). There are so many people there who will talk in detail about almost anything to do with computers and technology. Yet the site is absolute crap. It seems that people just go for brand names. Like Internet Explorer for example. Firefox is better than IE in almost every case yet is only used by
I would have to disagree there, dale. Slashdot provides a lot of news that other sites (i.e NeoWin [which is a great site too]) fail to provide. And true, the site is ugly to some degree, but your site couldn't possibly be called better in terms of 'design' or Look&feel.
