Radio on the computer

Posted by Michael Dale on Sat, 09 Apr 2005 8:41 PM

The Quartz crystal in my component radio has long since died. It has trouble locking onto a station, how lame. So I haven't really been listening to the radio at all. My ipod is pretty full (and probably a third of it IS legal) but I've sort of listened to the stuff I liked on it far too much.

Anyway I bought a TV tuner card sometime last year to copy a few VHS tapes. Since then it hasn't been used. Luckily I didn't pay too much for it (although I could get a digital version cheaper now). But I just remembered today that is has a built in FM tuner. So I hooked it up and it like, works! Cool. So I have the radio again. Plus I can record and stream it. Cool. Pity I need to turn my computer on for it to work.

But yeah, I'm pretty happy.

Since I haven't listened to the radio for a while, what's a good station?

See, when you say "probably a third of it IS legal", you must in fact be aware that in Australia, it's not. http://www.macobserver.com/article/2004/08/03.15.shtml

Moving on, Triple M has started playing a lot of 80's music in their "you'll never know what we'll play next" campaign, and it seems to be turning into a hardcore WS FM clone (right down to the 'Secret Sound' which I remember listening to on 2WS's AM station in the early 90's)... so it's either Triple M, WS FM, or a good CD :)

Radio sucks, here in the States. Same songs, over and over - at the same time each day. So depressing.

Thank God for iPod.

Is radio any better in Australia?

I agree with Steve in relation to Triple M,. Although im not the biggest fanatic of 80s music, it also plays rock (being a rock orientated station) and lacks crappy pop. That said it seems to be overplaying bloody 'What you waiting for', which is not on.

Doesn't WS FM just purely play old hits from the 80s [and 90s]?

Matt: Radio here plays specific songs over and over again... ie Gwen 'im so cool because my songs are so cool... or not' Stefani, other crap pop and bands like Good Charlotte and Simple Plan are overplayed. But it's really what station to listen to.
